ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - Croatia's pharmaceutical company Pliva
will be marking its 80th anniversary with a number of public-health
actions and events in Zagreb, Brno, Dresden and Ljubljana.
Pliva's management board chairman, Zeljko Covic, presented the
celebration programme at Wednesday's news conference.
Speaking about the importance of internationalisation of the
company, Covic said Pliva employed between 3,500 and 3,600 people
in Croatia, including quite a number of foreign citizens, and the
same number abroad.
Asked about the possible sale of a package of Pliva shares owned by
the state, Covic said the government has not yet confirmed it would
be selling the shares. He said he believed that, in the present
situation, it would be wise to wait some time and see how the
situation will develop further.
It is still too early to make any estimates about the basic
indications of the government's economy policy in its second part
of the mandate, as presented yesterday, Covic said. He deems it
positive that the government has realised the difficulties to which
it must respond with a more aggressive policy. He also applauded the
government's readiness to hold a dialogue with social partners.
Pliva on Wednesday also presented its donation to the State Weather
Bureau -- a device gauging the concentration of pollen in the air.
the Bureau's representatives will follow information on the pollen
and inform citizens every several days. This will enable people
suffering from allergies, Pliva officials believe, to find out on
time the amount of pollen waiting for them once they leave their
homes.
The concentration of pollen changes year in and year out, depending
on the climate, on which, in turn, depends the possibility of the
appearance of symptoms of acute allergic reactions, including
asthma.
Celebrating its 80th anniversary, Pliva will at the end of
September also present two new medical Internet portals, open a
development centre in Dresden at the beginning of October, and
issue a bid for scholarships in Zagreb, Brno and Krakow.
