PRISTINA, Sept 5 (Hina) - There will be no parallel school system in Kosovo, a co-chairman of the Education Department in Kosovo, Michael Daxner, said at Wednesday's session of the Kosovo Transitional Council which discussed curricula
for the new school year and teachers' salaries. Jonuz Salihaj, a member of the Transitional Council, slammed a document enabling the establishment of a parallel Serb university in Kosovska Mitrovica. Daxner said there would be no parallel universities in Kosovo and the Council would consider the possibility of granting minorities the right to education in their respective languages. Serb sources recently said that a Serb university would be established in Kosovska Mitrovica and that Serb pupils and students would be taught in line with Serbian curricula and not those drawn up in Kosovo, which was strongly criticised by ethnic Albanian politicians.(hina) rml
