KOPACKI RIT, Sept 4 (Hina) - The president of the U.S. Roots of Peace humanitarian organisation, Heidi Kuhn, visited the Kopacki Rit national park and villages in eastern-most Croatia to gain insight into the local population's
problems with mined land. There are more than 130 mine fields on 12.5 square metres of the national park, its manager, Melita Mihaljevic, said. Roots of Peace encourages and raises funds for demining. Kuhn emphasised the good cooperation with the Croatian Mine Action Centre, to which Roots of Peace donated a PC with a $100,000 software. The aim in demined areas is to launch ecology-friendly agriculture and wine manufacturing, she said.(hina) ha
