ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, Aug 27 (Hina) - NATO Secretary-General George Robertson regretted on Monday what he described as a deliberate act of violence in which a British soldier lost his life in Macedonia after succumbing to injuries
sustained when his vehicle was stoned on Sunday. In a statement released by NATO, Robertson said the incident was absurd as NATO soldiers were deployed in the southern Balkan state to help its people and government achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the current crisis. Earlier today Robertson spoke on the telephone to Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, who vowed his country's authorities would continue doing everything to ensure the safety of NATO troops and take measures necessary to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring. Isolated and irresponsible violent acts will not compromise the stabilisation process in Macedonia, Robertson said.(hina) ha
