PM Kosor points to rise in industrial output, exports

ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - Addressing the government at a session on Thursday Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said that industrial production this April rose by 2.7 percent as compared to industrial output in April 2010.

"This is a good indicator," Kosor said while informing ministers about the implementation of the government's Economic Recovery Programme.

The premier said that Croatia's exports in April went up 36.3 percent on the year and 46.2 percent on the month.

She also said that April had seen 6.7-percent rise in retail trade turnover

The government today sent a motion to parliament to ratify a decision by the Stabilisation and Association Council on defining the term "products with origin".

This enables Croatia to be included into a system of diagonal cumulation of origin.

Finance Minister Martina Dalic explained that the inclusion would eliminate the unequal position of Croatian producers on the European market. To illustrate the benefits, she said that, for instance, Croatian textile companies which incorporate materials from Turkey into their products, so far have had to pay higher customs duties when exporting their goods, but the decision on the inclusion into a system of diagonal cumulation of origin would change it for the better.

The proposal to mark 23 August as the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism, also known as the International Black Ribbon Day, was sent into the fast-track parliamentary procedure, paving the way for Croatia to observe this remembrance day this August.
