Mladic to appear before investigating judge later in the day

BELGRADE, May 26 (Hina) - Serbia's Deputy Chief Prosecutor for War Crimes, Bruno Vekaric, told Hina on Thursday afternoon that Ratko Mladic was still in Serbia and Justice Ministry State Secretary Slobodan Homen said that Mladic, who was arrested earlier in the day after being on the run for 16 years, would be interrogated by an investigating judge later in the day.

According to the Beta news agency, after the questioning the court will decide on Mladic's transfer to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, which wants him on charges of genocide and war crimes.

Homen was quoted by Beta as saying that the extradition procedure may last up to seven days.

The order on Mladic's handover to the Hague tribunal is to be signed by the Serbian justice minister.
