BELGRADE, July 3 (Hina) - Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic
said upon his return from an economic forum in Salzburg on Monday an
agreement has been reached on Yugoslavia to embark on a process of
gradual rapprochement with the European Union, the first stage
being candidate status.
Djindjic said the Serbian delegation at the forum "successfully
presented reforms" and received support for its economic plans.
Djindjic supported proposals to appoint Miroljub Labus the new
Yugoslav premier designate. Labus is a federal vice-premier in
charge of economic relations with foreign countries and is
currently a resigned vice-premier like other government members.
The Serbian prime minister dismissed claims that the Yugoslav
authorities had alternative plans prepared before the hand-over of
former president Slobodan Milosevic to the Hague war crimes
tribunal in case of possible negative reactions by the army.
"It is true we did not have any contact with the army but we did not
have any special plan, and such claims are a bit inappropriate and
exaggerated," he said.
