VRPOLJE, July 2 (Hina) - Dissatisfied with the price of wheat of one kuna per kilogram offered by the buyers, peasants from four eastern Croatian counties Slavonski Brod-Posavina, Pozega-Slavonia, Osijek-Baranja and Vukovar-Srijem
counties, blocked all traffic with tractors and other machinery today from 10am to 3pm. A representative of Slavonia and Baranja at the wheat sale negotiation commission, Ivan Kotarac, who organised the protest, recalled that peasants were asking for at least 1.32 kuna per kilogram of this year's crop, and that the state be a guarantor for payments in the agreed period. He said he hoped their requests will be met as soon as tomorrow, when a new round of negotiations with buyers is taking place. Today's protest was dubbed "step by step" until their requests are met. The peasants will remain at the protest point in Vrpolje until their demands are fulfilled, Kotarac asserted.(hina) lml sb
