Croatia's Ivica Racan and Slovenia's Janez Drnovsek made the
biggest headway in regulating relations concerning a jointly owned
nuclear plant in Krsko, Slovenia. Only some technical issues remain
to be settled before signing a final agreement on July 20.
The two officials agreed on equal ownership of the plant, joint
responsibility for the waste, and the compensation of mutual
claims. It was also agreed that joint management of Krsko begins on
January 1, 2002 and that the plant will start supplying Croatia with
electricity by July 1, 2002 at the latest.
Headway was also made in talks on borders. A new meeting on the
matter should be held in two to three weeks after additional
consultations with experts from both states.
The third open issue, a debt Slovenia's Ljubljanska Banka owes
Croatian depositors, will be settled as part of negotiations on
succession to the former Yugoslav federation and bilateral
negotiations on ways of improving economic and financial
relations, the two prime ministers said.
