HINA Zagreb, May 27, 2001CONSTITUTIONAL COURT ANNULS ELECTIONS FOR MEMBERS TO BRDOVECZAGREB, May 27 (Hina) - The Croatian Constitutional Court annulled local elections for members to the Brdovec Municipal Council, due to a mistake
which occurred in the name of a candidate on a ballot. Under the Court's ruling, the polls for the Municipal Council should be held again on June 17. The Constitutional Court accepted the appeal filed by the Croatian Democratic Union from the Brdovec municipality against the decision of the Zagreb County electoral commission and ordered the Brdovec electoral commission to appoint members to the electoral committee and hold new elections. The Constitutional Court also established that members of the electoral committee exceeded their authority by informing voters of the wrong name on the ballot. Thus, the local elections will be repeated in five constituencies (Three municipalities and two towns).INT.
