ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - The president of Croatia's Independent Union of Secondary School Teachers, Andrija Puljevic, told reporters teachers in 65 percent of all secondary schools were participating in Thursday's strike. According to
data which were available by noon, 13,000 out of 20,000 employees in the secondary education system were on strike, he said. All 9,000 members of the Independent Union of Secondary School Teachers are on strike, which means that another 4,000 teachers who are not Union members have joined them, Puljevic said. He showed reporters a list with the names of teachers taking part in the strike and called on the Education Ministry to organise a meeting with union representatives on Tuesday, May 22. The Union organised today's strike because the Ministry of
Education and Sports decided to postpone the start of talks on the
collective work agreement after two minor union organisations
asked to join the talks.
