The initialling and impending signing of the SAA are historic events which confirm the EU's willingness to promote Croatia's integration into Europe's political and economic mainstream, the Council said in conclusions adopted on the western Balkans. The initialling and impending signing of the SAA are historic
events which confirm the EU's willingness to promote Croatia's
integration into Europe's political and economic mainstream, the
Council said in conclusions adopted on the western Balkans.
The Council of Ministers reminds that Croatia's road to the EU is
closely linked to a successful implementation of the SAA.
The Council also applauds the establishment of a national unity
government in Macedonia in the hope that dialogue on internal
reforms will yield concrete results in defusing tension. The EU
says terrorist activity in northern Macedonia is unacceptable and
calls on the Skopje government to avoid being dragged into war.
Kosovo Albanian leaders are called to publicly condemn terrorist
activity in Macedonia and politicians in Albania to continue using
their influence to restore peace and stability.
The EU ministers applaud the successful parliamentary elections in
Montenegro and call on Belgrade and Podgorica to hold talks on
future relations in a renovated federal framework.
The EU is concerned about the resumption of violence and absence of
progress between Serbian authorities and Albanian representatives
in southern Serbia. Both sides are called to restore confidence.
The EU ministers also condemn all forms of separatism and
nationalist violence in Bosnia and call on local politicians to
publicly condemn recent extremist incidents in Mostar, Banja Luka,
and Trebinje.
