ZAGREB, May 4 (Hina) - The Bulgarian ambassador to Croatia unveiled in Zagreb on Friday a memorial plaque to Franjo Racki, the first president of the Croatian academy of Arts and Sciences (HAZU) and author of "The History of
Bulgaria." The memorial plaque was placed by the Bulgarian Embassy on the building of HAZU's Institute for Historical and Social Sciences. Ambassador Velizar Encev said Racki was a historical figure responsible for Bulgarian history. Racki was elected HAZU president in 1866 and remained one for the next 20 years. As a historian he paid great attention to the study of what united and divided the southern Slavic peoples. He systematically advocated Bulgarian independence and did not hide his sympathies for the Bulgarian people.(hina) ha
