The "Three Sisters" opera was directed by Istvan Szabo and
performed by the Hungarian National Opera and the UMZE chamber
orchestra. It featured lead performances by Krisztina Sinka,
Andrea Melath, and Marta Lukin.
The libretto for the three-act opera, based on the play by Czechov,
was written by Claus H. Henneberg and Peter Eoetvoesa.
The orchestras were conducted by Gergely Vajda and Laszlo Tihany.

The millennium's first Biennale focused on the meeting of cultures
and the mutual influences between diverse musical sources within
one culture's heritage and contemporary musical trends.
