SERB PARTY PROTESTS OVER HOW CENSUS IS CONDUCTED IN CROATIA

ZAGREB, April 9 (Hina) - The Serb People's Party (SNS) is against the current conduct of a national census in Croatia, claiming the census is serving for the manipulation of the rights and obligations of the Serb national minority in Croatia. SNS leader Milan Djukic said at a news conference on Monday that such manner of conducting the national census "has been in a perfidious way conceived by the (incumbent) Croatian government so as to have as less Serbs in Croatia as possible and thus complete a national interest of the former HDZ government." The rights of a national minority are linked with the number of members of the minority, and this is contrary to human rights, Djukic asserted. Croatia will thus have over 90 instead of 78 percent of Croats in political structures, and will be one of the ethnically purest countries in southeastern Europe, he added.
