ZAGREB, April 9 (Hina) - The Croatian economy is definitely coming
out of the crisis, Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac said on Monday. He
added this was the result of the incumbent government's economic
policy, whose second year of mandate will feature numerous
reforms.
The minister was speaking at the opening of the "Croatia and Chile"
round table, which was jointly organised in Zagreb by the Chilean
Embassy and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce.
This year will see an accelerated economic growth and a higher
employment rate, as well as structural changes and reforms,
Crkvenac said.
As crucial for this year, he singled out a faster privatisation and
the completion of preparations for reforms in the health and
pension sectors. These reforms are important also for reviving and
advancing Croatia's capital market, he said, and announced reforms
in public finances and a tax policy which will relieve successful
businessmen and reduce public spending.
The minister also spoke of Croatia's improved credit rating and the
willingness of all major global financial institutions to support
Croatia. A recent stand-by arrangement with the International
Monetary Fund testifies to that, as does the opening of a World bank
regional office in Croatia, he said.
Deputy Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz, who heads a visiting Chilean
delegation, said the aim of the visit was to increase Chile's
participation in globalised economy, which calls for finding new
markets. Croatia is of particular interest to Chile due to the fact
that many ethnic Croats live there and are active participants in
Chile's politics, economy, culture, and sports, he said.
