ZAGREB, Feb 23 (Hina) - Croatian Economy Minister Goranko Fizulic
on Friday reported on his official visits to the United States,
Canada and Cuba, assessing his trip to Cuba as particularly
important because of the opportunity for Croatia's oil company INA
to get one or two concessions for research and extracting oil.
At an informal news conference Fizulic recalled that his trips so
far were primarily aimed at countries in which the state has an
extremely important or dominant role in economy.
He also announced the possibility of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Croatia and Iraq soon. This would be
of interest for Croatian business people who are seeking such
relations, Fizulic said, adding, however, this was also a political
issue considering current events in Iraq.
He recalled the importance this country had for Croatian companies
while Croatia was still a part of the former Yugoslavia. The mere
participation in the reconstruction of buildings in Iraq could
create many jobs for many of our companies, Fizulic asserted.
In reply to reporters' questions, Fizulic said the second phase of
privatisation of the Croatian Telecom will be carried out this
year, while privatisation models for INA, electric power supply
company (HEP) and the Croatia Osiguranje insurance company will be
adopted.
The privatisation of the Croatian Telecom is going according to
plan and there are no contentious issues in the matter, Fizulic
said, adding his only concern was that it was being carried out
under unfavourable circumstances for telecommunication companies
on the international market.
