Minister Geoana said the countries in the region, Croatia included,
now had a historic chance to begin the process of rapprochement with
the European Union.
He added that OSCE missions in this region operated within an
integral approach, which means that demands and issues put to
Croatia will be posed to other ex-Yugoslav countries as well.
The Romanian minister stressed OSCE was highly appreciative of the
results achieved in Croatia over the past year, especially
President Mesic's role in the changes which took place in Croatia
and inciting steps forward in the entire region.
Mesic positively assessed Croatia-OSCE relations, saying open
issues could be resolved through dialogue and mutual good will.
He gave a brief analysis of the current situation in the region.
Addressing the issue of cooperation with UN's war crimes tribunal
in The Hague, Mesic said the individualisation of guilt was the only
way to stop collective accusations and collective liability.
He added that enabling Serb Croatians to return to pre-war homes in
Croatia spoke of the maturity of Croatian democracy while
simultaneously encouraging democratisation in Serbia.
