OPATIJA, Jan 27 (Hina) - The participants in an international conference on ecological agriculture have urged the government and parliament to implement a parliamentary conclusion of November 1998 banning the import of genetically
altered food, the import and sowing of genetically modified seed, and to immediately draft a bill on procedure with said seed. The conference, held in the northern Adriatic port of Opatija on Saturday, gathered representatives from Croatia and 14 European countries. The participants, among else, demanded that Croatian research of genetically altered organisms be under public control, and that the government immediately ratify the Cartagena Protocol on biosafety Croatia signed.
