on Wednesday received representatives of five farmers'
associations and two unions of workers in Kutina's chemical
industry Petrokemija who rallied in front of the parliament
building in downtown Zagreb earlier today.
The peaceful protest ended after the talks with Tomcic.
About 250 representatives of farmers' associations peacefully
protested against the dire situation in agriculture and a cut in gas
supply to Petrokemija's artificial fertiliser factory.
The protesters forwarded their requests on the opening of a
discussion on the situation in the agriculture to the parliament.
Farmers also demanded that the government adopt a four billion kuna
budget for the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry due to Croatia's
admission into the World Trade Organisation. They also demand
higher incentives for 12 crops following an increase in the prices
of primary materials and manufacturing components.
Protesting against a discontinuation of gas supply to Kutina's
natural fertiliser factory, representatives of Petrokemija
demanded immediate gas supply for the manufacturing of some 400,000
tonnes of artificial fertiliser necessary for the spring sowing.
