ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivica Racan held
talks in Zagreb on Wednesday with the director of the World bank, in
charge of Croatia, Andrew Vorkink on accelerating economic reforms
in Croatia, the Government's Public Relations Office said in a
statement.
Vorkink informed Racan about several important projects which
would supplement the International Monetary Fund programme in
Croatia.
The coordination of the programme's implementation should be
improved to avoid duplication, such as by consolidating six loan
lines for the development of small and middle-scale
entrepreneurship, and removing obstacles for foreign and domestic
investors, the statement said.
Vorkink said there was a firm consensus on expediting reforms in
Croatia.
He offered assistance to Croatia in the reform of its public
administration, especially in the fight against corruption, where
it is important to create a strong and effective institution to
facilitate entrance into the EU. The World bank is expected to
create a strategy of the fight against corruption.
Racan accepted the bank's offer and stressed the importance of
carrying out reforms as the only means of solving the issue of
unemployment, one of the biggest problems in Croatia, as well as
grey economy, the government's Office said.
The Prime Minister said the solving of the problem of unemployment
was connected with the speed of the implementation of the reforms,
restructuring, rationalisation, know-how and education.
