ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Justice Ministry on Jan. 22 forwarded an extradition request to Italy's justice minister for Ljerka Ercegovic, suspected of damaging the Croatian Postal Bank (HPB) for 34 million kuna ($4.25m),
Minister Stjepan Ivanisevic's cabinet said on Wednesday. Ercegovic, HPB's former chairman of the board, is suspected of damaging the bank at the instigation of media magnate Miroslav Kutle, who is in custody. An international arrest warrant was issued for her after the Croatian police on three occasions failed to find her at her home address to serve her with a one-month custody ruling. Based on the warrant, the Italian police arrested Ercegovic in Udine on Jan. 11. There she is in extradition custody, pending a decision by Italian judicial bodies on the extradition request. Ercegovic's attorney Ivan Kern told Hina on Wednesday his client
had engaged in Italy another attorney besides a court-appointed
one. They will request that she be transferred to a hospital owing
to poor health.
