2000, Croatia came out of international isolation, and both Europe and the world acknowledged it as a democratic state and accepted it as an equal partner, Racan said opening the session. As regards the economy, he pointed out the figures spoke best about the results achieved. The prime minister said a trend of decreasing gross domestic product was halted, significant steps forward were made in dealing with illiquidity, the biggest part of the state's unpaid debts was settled, and 2.5 billion kuna ($308 million) of citizens' insured savings in crashed banks was paid out.
