ZAGREB, Dec 21 (Hina) - Prime Minister Ivica Racan on Thursday evening said the Croatian government would freeze salaries of state officials at the current level by a regulation. "In line with a commitment, according to which state
officials should share the fate of citizens, the government decided to freeze wages, which was supported by presidents of the ruling coalition parties", Racan told reporters. Racan said that, in accordance with the Law on State Officials, state officials' wages were being calculated based on an average wage from 1998. The current basic wage of state officials is the basic wage from 1998. The Prime Minister said he held talks with directors of public companies this evening, because the government insisted that public companies also respect the limitations in the wage policy and encourage the development and investments.(hina) it
