ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - Organised cooperation between railways in
the region and issues related to transport along the pan-European
Corridor No. 10 (from Munich to Athens and Salonika) were the main
topics of a two-day meeting the Croatian Railways (HZ) organised in
Zagreb on Monday and Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Austrian,
Hungarian, Croatian, Yugoslav, Macedonian and Bulgarian railways
and the private Austrian-Hungarian GYSEV railway company, reads a
statement issued by the HZ. German, Slovene and Greek
representatives apologised for not attending the meeting and sent
their proposals in writing.
The participants agreed to establish a formal working group of
railways along Corridor No. 10 which would represent their
interests in the organisation of railway transport along the
corridor. They also adjusted stands on the group's formal
framework, on equalising the quality of infrastructure and basic
guidelines for commercial transport conditions along Corridor No.
10.
The participants expressed interest in setting organised railway
traffic in motion as soon as possible.
They also tried to draw up a platform and working strategy of the
working community toward the European Union and potential clients.
The platform will be further discussed by railway directors at
meetings to be held in late January and mid-February in the
Hungarian town of Sopron, Vienna and Belgrade.
The HZ believes this form of organisation of transport along
Corridor No. 10 is an important step forward which could result in
regaining part of pre-war freight transport on Croatian railways.
