ZAGREB, Jan 5 (Hina) - The Association of Workers' Unions of Croatia (URSH) on Friday slammed Thursday's government decision cancelling state control of the prices of bread and milk, assessing the government had given up its only
genuine social measure. In the current situation, when two thirds of Croatia's population are living below the subsistence level, the government should have continued protecting the prices of products and services which are necessary for survival. Therefore, price control should have been extended to edible oil, sugar and other basic products as well as to utilities, the association believes. By discontinuing the control of the prices of bread and milk the government has once again demonstrated lack of policy and contradiction as regards market orientation. subsistence rights of employees, the association claims.
