The legacy of the UN mission which is completing its job are
democratic police forces ready for Europe, a spokeswoman for the
UNMIBH said in Sarajevo on New Year Eve.
According to Kirsten Haupt, in the last seven years UNMIBH had
completed the most comprehensive reform of police in the history of
peace operation of the United Nations. The UN expects the
continuation of reforms in this sector and the removal of political
influence which might be exerted on the police.
The spokeswoman Haupt welcomed the greater engagement of the EU,
which shows, by taking over the police mission in Bosnia, that this
country is a part of the European family.
