ZAGREB, Dec 17 (Hina) - The need for adopting a permanent electoral
legislation acceptable to all political parties and social
structures and the good solution of all open issues, particularly
regarding the voting rights of the Diaspora and national
minorities, are most important conclusions of Tuesday's round
table entitled "Electoral Legislation". #L#
The round table was organised by a Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ)
foundation ("Zaklada hrvatskog drzavnog zavjeta").
At the event, which gathered only a few participants, president of
the foundation Nevio Setic said it was necessary to create
permanent legal foundations and values of the electoral
legislation which would prevent any form of miscalculation and
contribute to the "fair game".
HDZ whip Vladimir Seks said it was obvious that the electoral system
would stay the same, considering that coalition partners Social
Democrats (SDP) and the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS) moved
different draft electoral laws. The new electoral law, according to
Seks, will be different only in the segment under which national
minorities will have eight MPs. The new law will also limit the
voting rights of Croatian citizens residing abroad.
