The talks focused on the situation in the Middle East, the arrival
of the Egyptian Ambassador in Zagreb and forthcoming consultations
on the liberalisation of trade, Picula's spokesman, Zarko Plevnik,
told Hina.
This ambassadorial duty is currently performed by the Egyptian
Ambassador to Rome.
The head of Croatia's diplomacy also met Amr Musa, secretary-
general of the Arab League, with whom he discussed Croatia's role in
finding a solution to the problems in the Middle East.
Picula also held talks with the Egyptian Foreign Trade Minister,
Yousef Boutros Ghali. Present at the talks were representatives of
the Croatian Economy Ministry and the Chamber of Commerce, as well
as Croatian businessmen active in the Middle East.
According to some sources in the Croatian delegation,
consultations on a free trade agreement could start in the first
quarter of 2003.
Later today, minister Picula visited El Shatt and paid tribute to
the refugee victims from World War II.
