Ambassador Nicholas Jarrold said he was shocked at the news that a
section of the Wall in front of the UN building was knocked down.
British military police are co-operating with the Croatian
authorities to investigate the incident, the ambassador said. If an
investigation confirms that British soldiers were involved, they
will be punished appropriately, Jarrold said.
Four intoxicated SFOR members on Monday afternoon, torn down parts
of the Wall in downtown Zagreb and damaged it, Zagreb police
reported.
The 'Wall of Pain' surrounding the barracks in Zagreb's Selska
street was built in 1993 by mothers of imprisoned or missing
Croatian soldiers and civilians when the barracks were still being
used by the UNPROFOR.
The Zagreb branches of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and
Democratic Centre (DC) also condemned the vandalous act committed
by SFOR members.
