Minimum wages for November will be paid before the Christmas
season, head metal workers' union commissioner Ivica Kenda said
following a meeting with the Government's office for Social
Partnership.
Trustee in bankruptcy Ilija Maric added that the funds required for
wages would be secured with settlements by the company.
He confirmed that six strategic partners were interested in
investing in the ironworks, however, he did not wish to specify
under which conditions the company would be taken over.
Economy Minister Ljubo Jurcic just commented that the offers were
of a nature that were worth considering.
Kenda repeated union demands that all 1,700 employees retain their
jobs after a strategic partner purchases the ironworks and until
then that their minimum wages be secured.
"The strategic partner will decide on the number of employees,
however, for the moment we need to save all our employees," Kenda
stressed.
The meeting was attended by Labour and Social Welfare Minister
Davorko Vidovic, Croatian Peasants' Party MP Marijana Petir and the
chairman of the creditor's committee Damir Boric.
The next meeting with the same parties was announced for a week's
time.
