There are no big changes in relation to prior indicators. The
stability of prices continues to be satisfactory, while
oscillations in the domestic exchange rate are reflected in a very
narrow range without any intervention by the central bank on the
foreign exchange market.
Unfavourable indicators are still the high rate of imports and
income from tourism which has been estimated as lower than
foreseen.
According to the HNB Council, further trends in this regard are
connected with trends in the deficit of the consolidated state
budget and loan activities of banks.
HNB Council members were informed that the DAB had by the end of 2001
paid almost all its commitments towards the owners of secured
savings in bankrupt banks and savings banks, which amounted to
about 3.65 billion kuna. Unpaid are only about 64 million kuna,
which mostly relates to clients from far away countries or people
whose inheritance procedures were underway at the time.
