In an interview for the "Koha ditore" daily, Walker reiterated his
advocacy of Kosovo's independence, adding it was the only way to
solve problems, not only in Kosovo, but in the whole region.
"I am impressed by the almost uniform stance of participants in a
conference on the future of Kosovo held in Washington last week. All
of them were for independence," the daily quoted Walker.
He said, however, that achieving independence was not easy.
"Some people in the United States and Europe cannot understand that
Kosovo can never again be part of Yugoslavia," said Walker.
Walker was head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo prior to NATO's
shelling of Serb targets. He was the first to warn the world about
Serb troops killing Albanians in the village of Racak some 30km
south of Pristina.
