PRISTINA, Nov 7 (Hina) - Neither Belgrade nor Pristina alone can
decide on Kosovo's future status, U.N. Civil Administrator in
Kosovo Michael Steiner said on Thursday. #L#
Kosovo's current status is defined by the U.N. Security Council
Resolution 1244, therefore neither Belgrade nor Pristina have the
right to prejudge decisions on Kosovo's future status, Steiner said
in a statement released on the occasion of the adoption of a special
resolution in the Kosovo parliament, under which the preamble of
the Constitutional Charter of Serbia and Montenegro is
unacceptable and invalid. The charter refers to Kosovo as a
constitutional part of Serbia.
Kosovo's future status is an open issue and the U.N. Security
Council would decide on it, Steiner said. Each one-sided
declaration in any form which is not adopted by the Security Council
has no legal effect on Kosovo's future status, the U.N civil
administrator said.
