ZAGREB, Nov 28 (Hina) - The Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) Council
called on director Mirko Galic and editor-in-chief Jasna Ulaga-
Valic to improve and maintain communication vital for the
functioning of that institution, concluding that the editorship of
Croatian Television was right to invite OSCE advisor for electronic
media Karol Jakubowicz to visit HRT. #L#
The council made its conclusion during a discussion about demands
by HTV's editor-in-chief to be protected from the director's
'meddling' in her decisions relating to an interview with
Jakubowicz.
Jasna Ulaga-Valic had requested protection after Galic forwarded
her a written request to explain Jakubowicz's appearance in the
news programme on November 11.
Galic then noted that Jakubowicz, who was the only guest to talk
about the a draft of the HRT law, had been given too much air space
and that other members in the discussion of that law had not been
allowed to voice their opinions.
The editor-in-chief rebutted Galic's claims and that he in fact had
violated his legal obligation to truthfully, objectively and
without bias present information in its entirety. Ulaga-Valic in
fact said that Galic had meddled in the contents of her programmes.
