KARLOVAC, Nov 26 (Hina) - Karlovac County Chamber of Commerce on
Tuesday hosted Russian Ambassador to Croatia Eduard Leonidovic
Kuzmin who spoke to businessmen about advancing economic
relations, particularly in shipbuilding and tourism. #L#
Kuzmin visited the diesel and ship engine factory Adria which had
been conducting business in the former USSR for year (as
Jugoturbina) and is now interested in continuing co-operation.
The media headlines that about one thousand ships in the Russian
fleet would be overhauled are exaggerated . In fact the number of
ships is 280 and Croatia can realistically expect to overhaul about
60 ships. That is the shortest way for Croatia to reduce its trade
deficit, Ambassador Kuzmin said. In the trade valued at around 800
million dollars, Croatia covers only about twenty percent.
In about a year's time, the Druzba Adria project could be commenced
which would deliver about five million tonnes of Russian oil to
Omisalj which would be followed by 10 million tonnes and in ten
year's time, this could be 15 million tonnes per annum, Kuzmin
said.
The Croatian-Russian association of friends was founded in
Karlovac on Tuesday which was attended by Ambassador Kuzmin's wife,
Tatjana. She said that in addition to the Zagreb, Varazdin and now
Karlovac associations, others would soon be founded in Rijeka and
perhaps Pula.
