ZAGREB, Nov 26 (Hina) - The Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Croatia on Tuesday issued a
press release concerning the end of the Lora military prison case
trial, assessing that it had been surrounded by many controversies
and irregularities, and announcing that it would follow the appeals
process before the Supreme Court, should the decision be appealed.

"Lora is a landmark trial. It has been surrounded by a lot of
controversies and irregularities which we have followed and have
been concerned about," the press release signed by OSCE Mission's
spokesman, Alessandro Fracassetti, said.
The OSCE pointed out that several witnesses from outside Croatia
had not shown up at the trial. "One of the issues that should be
looked into is whether adequate measures were made from all
responsible parties to ensure that those witnesses appeared and
testified," said the statement.
The press release adds that, "now the justice system has to run its
course. If the decision is appealed, the OSCE will monitor the
appeal procedure in the Supreme Court."
The press release concerns the trial against former members of the
Croatian Military Police, who were last Friday acquitted by the
Split County Court of war crimes charges allegedly committed in
Split's Lora military base in 1991.
The press release concludes that the OSCE Mission had "in general
seen improvements in cooperation between FRY (Federal Republic of
Yugoslavia) and Croatia to provide assistance in war crimes cases
so that witness testimonies in trials taking place in one country
can be obtained in the other country."
