ZAGREB, Nov 22 (Hina) - The government should have seen to it that
Admiral Davor Domazet was not brought in the position where ICTY
investigators did not tell him what he was suspected of even after
three days of exhausting interviews, the Croatian True Revival
(HIP) said on Friday. #L#
The party, of which Domazet is vice president, issued a statement
saying the government should have seen to it that the retired
admiral was not brought into such a position, not only because it
was obliged to protect the constitutional rights of its citizens,
but also because the investigation of a former intelligence chief
and later military chief-of-staff directly touched on Croatia's
national interests.
An investigation without limits is an issue which goes beyond
Domazet's personal interests, read the statement.
The fact that Domazet was not told what he was suspected of even
after three days of questioning is impermissible, even by
international conventions, the Croatian Constitution, or rules of
the ICTY (International Criminal Tribunal for the former
Yugoslavia), the HIP said.
The party said the government and President Stjepan Mesic, having
submitted to the UN Tribunal thousands of documents, were
considerably responsible for the indictments which were issued
against Croatian generals and the latest wave of suspicion and
investigations.
The HIP calls on the Croatian public, political parties,
associations and all who value the 1990s Homeland War to protest
against the policy of participation in the creation of indictments
against Croatia's best sons.
