In a brief statement to reporters after talks with Mesic, who has
arrived in a visit to Sri Lanka, PM Wickremasinghe said he was happy
about the visit, the first by a Croatian president since the country
achieved independence.
"We are recovering from the war and wish to build political and
economic ties with Croatia," he said.
Croatia had an intensive cooperation with Sri Lanka when it was a
republic of the former Yugoslav federation, said Mesic.
"Our firms built power plants here, their presence was strong an we
now want to return to that," said the Croatian leader, adding that
the talks with the Sri Lankan prime minister had focused on this
subject.
