Monitoring mechanisms are necessary on the field to verify
Croatia's progress in fulfilling conditions for entry into
European associations, President Mesic said and commended the EU
Monitoring Mission, the President's Office said in a statement.
The two spoke about the dynamics of the return of refugees and
displaced persons, including Croatian citizens of Serb
nationality, as well as about the most recent events in Bosnia and
Yugoslavia and their possible effects on the situation in the
region.
Mesic and Unfraidh tackled relations between Croatia an the Hague-
based international war crimes tribunal in the context of the
tribunal's indictment against retired Croatian General Janko
Bobetko. Mesic said it was crucial that Croatia act strictly
according to the tribunal's procedure, keeping in line with its
international obligations.
