According to a State Department statement of Saturday, Armitage met
with Croatia's Ivan Grdesic, Albania's Fatos Tarif, and
Macedonia's Nikola Dimitrov at the White House yesterday.
Armitage confirmed the United States supported NATO's expansion at
an upcoming summit in Prague and keeping its doors open to those
countries which would not be invited to the summit.
The US official commended the progress Croatia, Albania, and
Macedonia had made in the implementation of Membership Action Plans
and urged them to continue.
The US supports their aspirations to join NATO, welcomes their wish
to cooperate in the process and support each other, and confirms
that each country will be evaluated by its individual achievements,
Armitage said.
Croatian Ambassador Grdesic told Hina today he was satisfied with
the US confirmation that it would support NATO's enlargement
following the Prague summit.
"Croatia is aware of the reality, but also satisfied that it has
received another confirmation of its Euro-Atlantic aspirations,"
he said.
