On October 18, following public competition, the Croatian Writers
Society appointed a new editorial board of "Republika" for a
mandate of four years. The mandate of the incumbent editorial
board, headed by Velimir Viskovic, ends on November 9.
The magazine will hit news-stands at the beginning of next year,
reads a letter by the new editorial board, which comprises editor-
in-chief Ante Stamac, executive editor Milan Miric, and editor
Antun Paveskovic.
Dialogue between different orientations and literary programmes is
"our basic editorial principle", says the new editorial board.
The editorial board believes that political factionalism has
proven fatal for Croatian literature, causing a rift in the 100-
years-old society. "We regret it, but we do not accuse anyone," says
the board.
The "Republika" editorial board was replaced after the
establishment of a new writers' society, which elected Velimir
Viskovic, the magazine's former editor, its president.
