Addressing the gathered, Croatian Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac
announced the further cuts in a budgetary deficit in the next year.
He also forecast that the growth rate would be some five percent in
2003.
The minister said the revision of this year's budget and a draft
budget for 2003 would be discussed on Thursday by the government's
co-ordinating bodies and the government would mull it next week.
According to Crkvenac, a majority of problems has already been
removed, and nor big difficulties regarding the budget should be
expected at the government's session.
Besides the revision of the 2002 budget and a draft budget for 2003,
another 12 different documents are being compiled by the finance
ministry, which should wrap up the fiscal policy for the next year.
Although reporters insisted on concrete figures in wages, the
minister Crkvenac only said that the salaries of the state services
had not increased for three years and he was personally in favour of
about a 5-percent rise in them.
He stressed that the case of General Janko Bobetko (indicted by the
UN war crimes tribunal) for the time being had no repercussions on
Croatia's position on the international financial market.
Croatia's rating has not deteriorated, he added.
Speaking at the conference, Croatia's Chief Treasurer Vesna
Vasicek said that the country had already achieved significant
results in the set-up of an integral system of the state treasury.
