The deed was signed by Finance Minister Mato Crkvenac on behalf of
the Croatian government and the World Bank's director for south and
central Europe, Andrew Vorkink.
The ultimate beneficiary of the funds is the Ministry of Public
Works, Reconstruction and Construction.
The funds will be used for preparations on the project covering
social and economic revival, particularly in formerly war-affected
areas. The project itself will be financed by the World Bank with
US$40 million.
The project consists of four parts aimed at stepping up social and
economic integration in previously war-struck areas and on some
islands, said Vorkink.
The project envisages setting up a social fund for local self-
government units intended to open new jobs, while part of the funds
will be used for mine-clearance and housing for returnees.
Minister Crkvenac said the World Bank to date had ensured almost 30
deeds of donation for Croatia, directly or indirectly, mostly for
the financing of programmes which cannot be solved through other
loans.
