Mesic reminded at an award-giving ceremony that this year was the
tenth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Croatia and
Egypt.
"For Croatia, which in 1992 sought its place in the international
community, political recognition by an Arab regional power had more
than just bilateral implications," Mesic said.
El Naggar, an influential businessman who heads the Alexandrian
Chamber of Commerce and the Management Board of the Alexandrian
Port, thanked for the decoration, expressing belief that the
excellent political, economic and cultural relations between the
two countries would continue developing.
Mesic, who met the honorary consul at the end of the official
programme of his visit to Egypt, is expected to arrive in Zagreb on
Thursday evening.
President Mesic arrived in Egypt on Wednesday for a two-day visit to
the historic Egyptian city, where he attended, along with some
3,000 guests, the opening of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a newly
rebuilt treasury of knowledge erected at the site of the ancient
library destroyed more than 16 centuries ago.
