ALEXANDRIA/ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic and Australian Governor General Peter Hollingworth met in Alexandria on Thursday to discuss the possibilities of advancing bilateral relations, Croatia's path towards
a united Europe, the fight against terrorism and certain aspects of the current international situation, a Mesic spokeswoman said.

Mesic and Australian Governor General Peter Hollingworth met in
Alexandria on Thursday to discuss the possibilities of advancing
bilateral relations, Croatia's path towards a united Europe, the
fight against terrorism and certain aspects of the current
international situation, a Mesic spokeswoman said. #L#
President Mesic arrived in this Egyptian historical city on
Wednesday for a two day visit. Yesterday he attended the grand
opening of Bibliotecha Aleksandrina, along with another 3,000
eminent guests, erected at the site of the antique library
destroyed in a fire 16 centuries ago.
Mesic extended condolences to the Australian governor and people on
the occasion of a terrorist attack which took place on the
Indonesian resort island of Bali last week, the majority of whose
victims were Australian citizens, spokeswoman Daniela Barisic
said.
Discussing the two countries' bilateral relations, the Croatian
president recalled there was a numerous Croatian community in
Australia and the role it had and should have in the development of
Croatia-Australia relations.
Mesic and Hollingworht exchanged invitations to visit each other's
countries.
On Wednesday, ahead of the opening of the library, Mesic met his
Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak, who hosted this outstanding
cultural event, and Romanian President Ion Iliescu. Late last
evening, Croatia's head of state held talks with Greek President
Constantin Staphanopoulos and briefly with French President
Jacques Chirac.
