The library, which is believed to be located at the site of the
ancient Alexandrian library, will be opened by Egyptian President
Hosni Mubarak.
During his two-day visit to Alexandria, Mesic will meet Mubarak and
Greek President Konstantinos Stephanopoulos.
The opening of the Alexandrian Library will be attended by more than
3,000 guests, including French President Jacques Chirac, Romanian
President Ion Iliescu, Australian General Governor Peter
Hollingworth, Spanish Queen Sofia and Jordanian Queen Rania.
The opening of Bibliotheca Alexandrina marks the end of a 20-year-
long project worth 200 million US dollars, whose implementation was
assisted by UNESCO and numerous donor countries.
