Mesic had criticised the then president of the Yugoslav Presidency, Borislav Jovic, for meeting Croatian Serbs without the presence of Croatia's official representatives.
THE HAGUE, Oct 1 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on
Tuesday at the Slobodan Milosevic trial before the Hague-based U.N.
war crimes tribunal that the meeting with a leader of Knin Serbs,
Milan Babic, was organised after Mesic had criticised the then
president of the Yugoslav Presidency, Borislav Jovic, for meeting
Croatian Serbs without the presence of Croatia's official
representatives. #L#
"At the meeting, held in early 1990s, I told Babic that autonomy is
out of the question and that Milosevic and Jovic were deceiving
him," Mesic said at the witness stand.
Babic "laughed at this and said that he would have a state sooner or
later, to which I told him: 'You will have nothing, not even your own
practice", Mesic said commenting on his conversation with Babic, a
Knin dentist at the time.
"And this is what happened," Mesic told the tribunal in his
testimony.
