Commenting on the prosecution's evidence about Belgrade's
financial assistance to rebel Serbs in Croatia, from which his
responsibility for crimes derives, Milosevic said that the only
purpose of the assistance was for Serbs to "survive".
"Serbs helped Serbs -- and that is a crime," Milosevic said,
concluding that this was obviously not the case of "the Vatican
providing help to Croatia through the Vatican Bank for the purchase
of weapons".
Milosevic wondered whether this would mean that he was a criminal
and the Pope the Holy Father.
