A programme for the development, construction and modernisation of
Croatia's gas transport system in the 2002-11 period consists of
three regional projects: the Pula-Karlovac pipeline, the Lika and
Dalmatia gas supply system, and one for central and eastern
Croatia.
The programme, which was adopted by the government on Aug. 29, will
be executed by the state-owned Plinacro company.
Presenting the programme, Plinacro director Darko Karacic said
that only one third of Croatian territory had gas supply at the
moment, while the aim was to make it available to all residents.
Croatia's annual usage of natural gas is currently some 2.6 billion
square metres, of which 1.5 billion is of domestic production and
1.1 billion is imported from Russia.
According to estimates, the current import and domestic production
should suffice until 2007.
